Hailakandi is a town and a district in the state of Assam India.The Hailakandi district is one of the three districts ofSouthern Assam Barak Valley. It was constituted as a civilsubdivision on 1st June 1869. Subsequently, it was upgraded todistrict in 1989. In the organized sector, tea is the main industry of thedistrict. The Hindustan papermill Panchgram comes to the second place where large number of people getemployment opportunities in the district. Hailakandi is part of Karimganj (Lok Sabha constituency).
